Sometimes we need an official music therapist, and sometimes, all we need is a guitar or a karaoke track. Music has been there for me throughout teenage breakups, birthday parties, and even during a global pandemic with no end in sight.

Remember back in March 2020 when we thought we’d quarantine for two weeks and then the worldwide pandemic would magically disappear? And then remember when that pandemic extended to weeks and months...and now years?

Do you remember those months of being stuck at home? Do you remember how everyone started making sourdough? What about the toilet paper hoarding (we'd like to forget that piece). Do you remember trying to deal with the unknowns and yet trying to explain the unknowns to your children? How are you doing with that today?

Do you remember the musicians who shared their gifts freely with the world? How about Mo Willems teaching us all how to draw? Do you remember all of the ASMR videos we all watched trying to cope and find peace? How about the Disney singalongs on Disney+? We all coped in different ways, and we continue to figure things out, but let us share how our family coped: We Made Music!

Some started practicing the piano. Others I picked up the guitar. Our children sang and strummed on their ukuleles. We sang together. We made videos. Our extended family held an online lip sync competition (and it was totally epic). We would get the kids in bed at night and then sit at the piano and play and sing and cry and feel. One of our owners, Annalece Misiego, and the Director of the Boothe Music School (teaching lessons in Spanish Fork, Provo, and virtually) shared the following:

Music has been a constant my whole life but I didn’t ever NEED music the way I did when the world shut down. Millions of other people across the world used music to cope as well as we watched The One Voice Children’s Choir video of Memories that was viewed 14 million times. How about the videos of people in Europe joining in song from their balconies watched by millions of people.

WE NEED MUSIC.

The beautiful part about making music is that it doesn’t have to be done on one, specific instrument (or any...we are big believers in body percussion in my family:)). It doesn’t have to be perfect. It doesn’t have to sound a certain way. We just have to start!

MUSIC IS ABOUT GROWTH.

We all have to start somewhere. No one comes to this world knowing how to play the flute, violin, and guitar. Everyone has to start at the beginning, and there is no end point. There is always more to learn.

MUSIC IS THERAPY.

Music literally can change us from the inside out. Music therapy can aid in improving respiration, lowering blood pressure, improving cardiac output, reducing heart rate, and relaxing muscle tension. For mental health, this form of therapy is great for reducing stress' common negative side effects, such as emotional and behavioral problems.

Sometimes we need an official music therapist, and sometimes, all we need is a guitar or a karaoke track. Music has been there for me throughout teenage breakups, birthday parties, and even during a global pandemic with no end in sight.

Did you know that we have group and individual lessons available through the Boothe Music School in our Spanish Fork and Provo locations -- as well as virtually? Interested in learning to play the piano, guitar, mandolin, violin, drums, clarinet, voice, and SO MUCH MORE! Just fill out this form, and we will pair you with one of our incredible Boothe Music School teachers (they are incredible).

Come make music with us. See what it can do for you!
